Young wine

High histamine

Despite being less aged than vintage wines, young wine still contains alcohol that blocks histamine breakdown enzymes.

Even freshly made wine carries the core issue — alcohol interferes with the enzyme your body uses to process histamine.

  • Less aging, not less risk — young wine may have lower histamine than aged or red wines, but the alcohol-driven enzyme block still applies regardless of age

  • Fermentation byproducts — even brief fermentation produces some histamine and other biogenic amines, so "young" doesn't mean histamine-free

Comparing reactions across different wine styles can help you figure out which, if any, suit you better.
