Rooibos tea

Low histamine

Naturally caffeine-free and low in histamine, rooibos is one of the gentler tea options available.

Unlike many teas, rooibos doesn't contain caffeine, which can block the enzyme your body uses to break down histamine.

  • Caffeine-free — most traditional teas contain caffeine, which may reduce your body's ability to clear histamine; rooibos sidesteps this entirely

  • Red vs. green rooibos — the more common red rooibos undergoes an oxidation process (sometimes loosely called fermentation, though it isn't microbial fermentation) and is still considered low histamine; green rooibos is even less processed if you want to be cautious

Rooibos is widely considered one of the more comfortable tea choices for people watching their histamine load.
