Puffed wheat

Low histamine

Plain puffed wheat is low in histamine — just heat and pressure applied to wheat, with nothing added that raises concern.

Puffing is one of the simplest ways to process a grain. Wheat kernels are heated under pressure until they expand, and that's it — no fermentation, no aging, no additives in the plain form.

  • Simple process — the heat-and-pressure method doesn't create conditions for histamine to develop, making plain puffed wheat one of the more straightforward cereal options

  • Watch the extras — puffed wheat sold as a snack or cereal often comes coated in sugar, honey, chocolate, or artificial flavourings, any of which can change the picture considerably

The plain, unsweetened version is typically a comfortable choice. It does contain gluten, so keep that in mind if wheat is something you're sensitive to.
