Arrowroot

Low histamine

A neutral, starchy root that's naturally low in histamine and commonly used as a gentle thickener.

Arrowroot is a mild starch derived from a tropical root plant, with no known histamine content and a very simple nutritional profile.

  • Great thickener alternative — it's often used in place of cornstarch, and because it's unprocessed and unflavored, it doesn't introduce any histamine-related concerns on its own

  • Whole root vs. powder — both forms are generally low-histamine, though the dried powder is far more common and equally well-tolerated

Arrowroot is a practical ingredient to keep on hand when you want to thicken sauces or soups without adding any histamine risk to the dish.
