Pea protein powder

Low histamine

Plain pea protein powder is low in histamine. It is made from peas and is not fermented; flavored versions can add sweeteners and gums worth checking.

Pea protein powder is protein extracted from dried peas, which are low in histamine, and nothing in the process ferments or ages it.

  • Not fermented: unlike whey, which is a byproduct of cheese making, pea protein does not go through a fermentation step that builds histamine

  • Check flavored versions: flavored powders often add sweeteners, gums and "natural flavors", which add variables for sensitive people

  • Legume sensitivity: some people react to legumes in general, so if peas do not agree with you, pea protein may not either

A plain, unflavored pea protein with a short ingredient list is the easiest version to start with.
