Mulberries

Low histamine

Mulberries are low in histamine but very ripe or overripe berries may be less well tolerated than fresh ones.

Mulberries don't contain notable histamine and aren't widely reported as triggers in histamine intolerance literature.

  • Ripeness matters — like most fruits, histamine-sensitive people sometimes find that very ripe or mushy mulberries sit less comfortably, likely due to microbial activity as the fruit breaks down

  • Berry comparison — mulberries tend to be better tolerated than strawberries, which are known histamine liberators, so they're a reasonable berry alternative

Reaching for firm, fresh mulberries rather than overly ripe ones is a sensible approach.
