Flour tortillas

Low histamine

Plain flour tortillas are low in histamine — the main thing to check is whether any vinegar or additives are included.

Basic flour tortillas are made from wheat, water, fat, and salt — none of which are histamine triggers on their own.

  • Packaged versions vary — store-bought tortillas sometimes contain preservatives, citric acid, or vinegar to extend shelf life, which may be worth checking on the label

  • Fresh or homemade — freshly made tortillas with simple ingredients tend to be the most straightforward option from a histamine standpoint

A quick glance at the ingredient list is usually enough to know what you're working with.
