Energy drinks

Low histamine

Energy drinks are low in histamine, but high caffeine doses can trigger flushing and jitters that overlap with histamine symptoms.

Energy drinks don't carry a significant histamine load, but the concentrated caffeine they contain raises adrenaline quickly, which can produce flushing, a racing heart, and tingling that feel remarkably similar to histamine reactions.

  • Higher caffeine dose — energy drinks typically deliver more caffeine than coffee or cola, so the adrenaline-driven symptom overlap tends to be more noticeable

  • Additives to watch — some energy drinks include citric acid or natural flavors that a smaller number of sensitive people may also find triggering, separate from the caffeine

If symptoms tend to show up after energy drinks, trying a lower-caffeine option first can help you figure out how much of the reaction is caffeine-driven.
