Doughnut

Moderate histamine

Plain doughnuts are relatively mild, but dairy glazes and fruit fillings add histamine-relevant ingredients to the mix.

The base doughnut dough isn't a major histamine concern on its own.

  • Toppings and fillings matter — chocolate glaze adds cocoa (a histamine liberator), fruit fillings often include citrus or berries (also liberators), and dairy-based creams are commonly reported triggers

  • Freshness as a general principle — as with most prepared foods, fresher is typically better tolerated; doughnuts that have been sitting for a while may be less well tolerated than those eaten fresh, as a general food freshness consideration

A plain glazed or sugar-dusted doughnut is typically the most straightforward option.
