Coffee (decaffeinated)

Moderate histamine

Decaf coffee still contains compounds that may affect histamine sensitivity, even without the caffeine.

Removing caffeine doesn't fully solve the histamine puzzle — many people with histamine intolerance still report reactions to decaf coffee, even without the caffeine that's more clearly linked to DAO interference.

  • Still a reported trigger — decaf coffee continues to appear on histamine intolerance lists, and many sensitive people notice a reaction; whether this is due to other compounds in the beans or another mechanism isn't clearly established

  • Compared to regular coffee — decaf is generally considered slightly easier to tolerate, but it doesn't appear to resolve the issue for everyone

Some people find switching to lower-histamine drinks like herbal teas (chamomile, for example) more comfortable.
