Tuna (vegan)

Moderate histamine

Plant-based tuna mimics fish texture but histamine risk depends heavily on its ingredients and processing.

Vegan tuna is typically made from ingredients like soy, chickpeas, or jackfruit, each carrying its own histamine profile.

  • Fermented soy — if the product uses fermented soy, this can introduce moderate histamine, as fermentation is a known driver of histamine accumulation in soy-based foods; non-fermented soy processing does not carry the same concern

  • Ingredient variability — jackfruit-based versions tend to be lower risk, while versions with added vinegar, flavoring, or yeast extract raise the concern level

Checking the ingredient list on your specific brand is worth the extra minute.
