Lettuce

Low histamine

Plain fresh lettuce is one of the most histamine-friendly vegetables, well-tolerated and low-risk for most people.

Lettuce doesn't contain significant histamine and isn't known to trigger histamine release or interfere with how your body breaks it down.

  • Freshness is the main variable — once lettuce starts to wilt or brown, histamine can begin to accumulate, so crisp and fresh is always better

  • Type matters a little — plain green lettuces like romaine and iceberg tend to be very neutral, while darker or more complex mixed greens may vary slightly

Freshly washed, crisp lettuce is about as safe a salad base as you can get.
