Chili powder

Moderate histamine

Chili powder combines multiple spices that commonly appear on sensitivity lists, making it more likely to trigger a response than a single ingredient alone.

Chili powder is a blend, which is part of what makes it a moderate-to-notable concern — it rarely contains just one spice.

  • Dried chili peppers — the chili pepper base is commonly flagged in histamine sensitivity discussions, though whether the concern stems from histamine liberation, capsaicin effects, or general reactivity is not firmly established in the primary literature

  • Blend effect — most commercial chili powders contain cayenne, cumin, garlic powder, and sometimes oregano or paprika — several of which also appear on moderate-concern lists, so the combined exposure may be more significant than any one spice alone

Making your own spice blends with individual ingredients you know you tolerate gives you much more control over what's in the mix.
