Leek

Low histamine

A mild allium vegetable that's generally low in histamine and well-tolerated, unlike some of its more reactive relatives.

Leeks are in the same family as onions and garlic, but don't carry the same histamine concerns — they're generally considered a low-risk choice.

  • Compared to onions — onions are sometimes mentioned in the context of histamine intolerance, but leeks tend to be much better tolerated and are not typically flagged in the same way

  • How you prepare them matters — fresh leeks are the safest bet; pickled or fermented preparations would significantly raise the histamine level

Using fresh leeks as a gentle flavor base is a practical swap for more reactive aromatics.
