Daikon

Low histamine

Fresh daikon radish is low in histamine with no known histamine-releasing or DAO-blocking properties.

Daikon is a mild root vegetable that, when eaten fresh, sits comfortably in the low-histamine category without any notable complicating mechanisms.

  • Fresh preparation matters — raw or lightly cooked daikon is well-tolerated; however, pickled daikon (common in Japanese and Korean cuisine) may be more of a concern depending on how it's prepared — fermented versions can accumulate histamine, and vinegar-based versions may also be less well tolerated by some sensitive individuals

  • Compared to other radishes — daikon behaves similarly to other fresh radishes in terms of histamine, making the whole fresh radish family generally safe

Fresh daikon is a versatile ingredient — just watch for pickled versions in prepared dishes.
