Low histamine

Fresh or frozen edamame is low in histamine and one of the more tolerated soy-based options.

Unlike fermented soy products, edamame is simply young soybeans — no fermentation means no histamine buildup.

  • Fermentation is the key difference — heavily processed or fermented soy (like soy sauce or miso) is high in histamine; edamame skips that process entirely

  • Frozen is fine — frozen edamame is typically flash-frozen fresh, so it holds up well compared to other proteins that degrade quickly
